| Volume 1 Issue 3 Flushing Alliance Chapter April/May 2008 Coordinator’s Corner April 3rd, We had a regular scheduled meeting with nine women attending. While we missed some of our regular attenders, we were happy to welcome some new faces. Our speaker was Debbie Karras and she talked about her book "Jagged Memories". She shared her experience of abuse in her life and how she has been able to overcome it. She offered some important information about abuse and where to find help if it is needed. Her topic sparked some good discussion about how to protect our children (especially girls). We talked about signs to look for and ways to open up communication about this very serious subject. WHATS’ NEW: On Saturday, February 9th we entered the worldwide web with our new website ohiomums. com. We thought this would be a great way to help spread the word about this ministry. We hope you will share it with other mothers. Be patient with us while we continue construction on the website. Also new for 2008 after some serious thought, discussion, and direction from God, we are starting a MUMS group in the evening. We felt that the group has a lot to offer moms and feel that we should be available to accommodate working moms as well. So... April 17th we are branching out and we will offer a similar format as our regular MUMS except for now we won’t be able to offer childcare. We will run from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and light snacks will be offered. Please pass this information to any mom you know that might enjoy a night away for encouragement. This ministry is being called MUMS Plus and our regular MUMS attenders are welcome too. LOOKING AHEAD: We hope that you will be with us next month, May 1st when Charlene Sirca will be sharing her testimony with us. Kids Corner The topic for this month will be “Mother's Day” The kids will be talking about this. Recipe Swap May meeting 2008- We thought we would try something different for our lunch. We are asking that you bring one copy of a favorite recipe (we will make copies on the copier) and a sample of the recipe to share. This can be a snack/Appetizer, main dish, salad, dessert, whatever you like. We just thought it would be fun and most moms are always looking for new recipes. We may even share them on the website with your permission. * Hey Ladies!! We would really like to hear from you- tell us how you feel about MUMS and what it means to you. Send your thoughts & comments to charlene@ohiomums.com or Dana@mcgarygirls@gmail.com From a moms heart I just want to say Thanks to Charlene for having a vision and passion for this group. February was my first year anniversary of attending MUMS and I am so grateful. My life has truly changed by being a part of this group. I've learned a lot from our great speakers and just from talking and sharing with other moms. It is so refreshing to know you are never alone- not only is God always with you but he will also surround you friends & support if you let him lead you. I pray that you will be blessed by this ministry as much as I have. ----- Dana McGary Recipes Pizza Dough Ingredients: • 1 cup of very warm water • 1 pkg active yeast • 11/2 Tbs. Return to oven, continue baking 6-8 minutes til cheese is melted. Enjoy!! This dough also works well for pepperoni rolls and calzones. Quote of the month - God gives us the strength as mothers to do what is "unnatural". It is against our nature to get up three or four a night, yet we do it. It is against our nature to wipe dirty bottoms, clean up vomit, wipe runny noses, wash piles of laundry, yet we do it. It is against the natural to be unselfish, yet as mothers we have to be. ~ Ruth Bell Graham~ & ~Gigi Graham Tchividjian~ A book of Interest Might we suggest a copy of the children's book "Love You Forever" by Robert Munsch. This book tells of a mothers love for her child. You might want to have a tissue handy. Healthy Tidbits It has been said if you put good in, good will come out. Let's face it, Most of todays music is not beneficial to our kids. We do have a choice and I am glad I can offer something better for my children. Birthdays! May 11th Prov. 31:28 "Her children arise and call her blessed. As this special day is set aside for mothers' approaches, take sometime to think about what a blessing and an honor it is to be a mom. There truly is no better job in the world Fun Fact: Mother's Day originated in 1907 when Anna Jarvis of Philadelphia wanted to honor her mother so she arranged a special church service to be held. By 1914 congress declared the 2nd Sunday in May as Mother's Day. Did you know: You can wear a white carnation to remember a mom who has died or a colored one (usually red) to honor a mom who is still living. |
